Cowboy, the maker of some of the best performing e-bikes around is back with 2 new models, the C4 and the C4 ST. Each bike benefits from a new powertrain which bumps up the torque from 30Nm to 45Nm – this is immediately apparent on the first downstroke, with the deftest of touches driving the bike forward to make light work of any hills. In keeping with Cowboy’s overall design philosophy, the C4 and C4 ST are elegant and stripped-back; single speed with no throttle and no gears while the impeccably designed torque sensor detects exactly how much power assistance to provide, leading to a natural and intuitive ride. The addition of a step-through (ST) frame to the Cowboy range means there is now a bike suited to those who prefer a more casual and upright riding position.

What is the difference between the Cowboy 4 and the Cowboy 4 ST?

The Cowboy 4 has a traditional step-over frame to accommodate riders between 170 and 195cm tall whereas the Cowboy 4 ST has a step-through frame (hence the ST at the end) and is meant for riders between 160–190cm tall. The geometry of the C4 encourages a more dynamic riding position while the lower saddle and higher grips of the C4 ST put the rider into a more upright position. Aside from sizing and geometry the bikes have identical features and specifications.

What new features are on the Cowboy 4 and 4 ST?

The Cowboy 4 and 4 ST benefit from a new powertrain with 50% more torque than the Cowboy 3. The C4 and C4 ST also feature a best-in-class Selle-Royal saddle and a brand new integrated ‘cockpit’ that wirelessly charges your phone as you ride.

How many gears do the Cowboy 4 and 4 ST have?

Like the Cowboy 3, the 4 and 4 ST are both carbon belt-driven single-speeds. They have an integrated torque sensor which tells the motor exactly when you need more assistance. This removes the need for gears and makes for an exceptionally smooth and uncomplicated riding experience. Whether you are starting from a standstill or riding uphill the e-bike will sense that you need more help, and the motor will provide it.
